The current 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 model is available with six powertrain options. For the 2022 model year, Chevrolet has plans to streamline the engine lineup to prioritize the strongest and most popular units.
Standard on the 2021 Silverado 1500 is a 4.3-liter V6 engine rated at 285 horsepower and 305 lb-ft of torque. Chevrolet will no longer offer this powertrain or its six-speed automatic transmission. The new standard engine in 2022 will be a 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 310 horsepower and 348 lb-ft of torque. This is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Another engine that will no longer be available is the 5.3-liter V8 with Active Fuel Management, but the well-liked 5.3-liter V8 engine with Dynamic Fuel Management will remain in the lineup. It delivers an impressive 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque.
The 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 will offer two additional options under the hood. The first is a Duramax® 3.0-liter Turbo Diesel rated at 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. Finally, you can still choose the powerful 6.2-liter V8. This engine delivers an impressive 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. It currently offers the best towing capabilities for the Silverado — a massive 13,000 pounds.
