Chevrolet shocked the automotive world when it revealed that the Chevrolet Corvette C8 would be a mid-engine model. Many enthusiasts wondered if this latest iteration could match the legendary performance of previous models.
Car and Driver recently put all doubts to rest. During the publication’s Lightning Lap 2021 event, the Chevy Corvette C8 was the fastest vehicle tested.
The mid-engine monster managed to achieve a time of just 2:49.0 as it zoomed along the Virginia International Raceway. That means that the Corvette C8 not only managed to outrace the competition, but also improve upon the times set be earlier iterations.
In second place with a lap time of 2:45.0 was the Lamborghini Huracán Evo. However, while the Huracán Evo has an asking price of $334,969, the Chevy Corvette C8 costs less than $70,000. All of that begs the question: Why would you pay more — a lot more — for less?
With a staggering 0 to 60 mph time of just 2.8 seconds, it’s nigh on impossible to best the Chevrolet Corvette C8 when it comes to performance at a value. To experience excellence in motion, stop by Sour Lake Chevrolet to browse our extensive inventory of high-quality vehicles.
Of all the different film genres out there, none are nearer or dearer to our hearts here at Sour Lake Chevrolet than the road trip movie. If you’re gearing up for your next adventure, we recommend watching some of these great road trip movies in order to get in the mood.
The Muppet Movie
You don’t have to be a kid to enjoy the zany antics of Kermit and the gang in 1979’s “The Muppet Movie.” It focuses on America’s favorite frog as he sets out for Hollywood with dreams of a life among the stars. Naturally, things don’t go exactly as planned, but like any good road trip movie, the experience is all the better for it.
Pee Wee’s Big Adventure
When Pee Wee Herman’s (Paul Reubens) beloved bike is stolen, he sets off on the titular “Big Adventure,” traveling all the way to The Alamo Mission in Texas (which is only four hours from Sour lake!), and encounters more than a few memorable characters. This film also introduced the world to Tim Burton, who went on to direct movies like “Batman” and “A Nightmare Before Christmas.”
Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey
While none of the main characters in “Homeward Bound” drive a car, there’s no denying that the story is an adventure for the ages. After fearing that their owner has left them forever (they didn’t), a Golden Retriever, an American Bulldog, and a Himalayan cat embark on a trip through the Sierra Nevada in attempt to reunite with their beloved family, with only porcupines, mountain lions, and hundreds of miles standing in their way. Exceptional voice acting by Michael J. Fox and Sally Field round out the package.
If your Silverado 1500 or other Chevy model needs a bit of attention before you set out to write your own road trip story, don’t hesitate to schedule an appointment with the service department at Sour Lake Chevrolet.
With warmer weather approaching, we’ll soon want to spend more time outdoors and traveling. This also means more time driving. These sunny days can be very enjoyable but can also tire out your eyes. Here are a few ways you can protect your eyes while driving in and around Sour Lake.
The simplest thing you can do is wear sunglasses while you drive. However, not all sunglasses are the same. Choose high-quality glasses that are close fitting to block out the most UV rays. You can also consider polarized lenses that help reduce glare and make images sharper.
Use sun visors
When the sun is low in the sky and is directly ahead of you, it can be blinding. Flip down your vehicle’s sun visor and sit up as straight as possible to help block the sun.
If your eyes are feeling tired or dried out, you probably need to take a break. Pull over at a rest stop and close your eyes for a few minutes. If there is someone else who can drive, take turns so you can rest your eyes.
Visit the eye doctor
Make a habit of visiting your eye doctor each year. You may be able to get prescription transition glasses that will automatically help you see better in harsh sunlight.
Here at Sour Lake Chevrolet, we want to ensure that all of our customers are safe. By following these tips, you should be set for a fun-filled summer of driving.
GMC will soon offer a MultiPro™ Tailgate variant for the 2022 Chevy Silverado, a move that would elevate the abilities of the Silverado and open up new possibilities for its owners.
Per Autblog’s Ronan Glon, the new MultiPro™ Tailgate variant for the Silverado will include the current six standard functions while adding a seventh of its own. The name for the tailgate is expected to be the MultiFlex or the Multi-Flex, as GM already holds a trademark for the moniker.
Though we don’t know much about the Multi-Flex yet, we do know that it will take many cues from the MultiPro™. This tailgate is made up of a primary gate and a smaller inner gate hinged inside the primary gate. You can lower both of these gates to get 7-9 inches closer to the bed than you normally would, for easier unloading and loading.
Full-width steps, hand grabs, and load stops are just some of the other features that make the MultiPro™ Tailgate so impressive and make the upcoming Silverado variant so exciting. Stay tuned for more news on the Multi-Flex tailgate in the days ahead. And in the meantime, stop by Sour Lake Chevrolet to take one of our current Silverado models for a whirl.
Distracted driving is one of the main causes of accidents. It can be just as dangerous as driving under the influence of alcohol, yet thousands of drivers do it each day. Stopping distracted driving is about more than not texting behind the wheel. Read on to learn more ways to be safe behind the wheel.
Put the Phone Away
To avoid the temptation of taking a call or glancing at a text, you should tuck your cell phone safely out of sight. Many vehicles now have hands-free systems, but even these can cause a distraction, so it’s best to leave those systems for emergencies only or have your front-seat passenger take control of the touchscreen.
Look At Directions Ahead of Time
We all know that GPS isn’t perfect, and it can be distracting to suddenly find yourself turned around. By looking at your directions ahead of time, you can get a better general idea of the drive and potentially avoid the distraction of GPS surprises.
Don’t Eat Behind the Wheel
Food and drink spills are a big cause of distraction. While it might not seem like a big deal to save time and eat a sandwich to go, the experience will probably have you taking your eyes off the road to aim your next bite. Practice safe habits by giving yourself some extra time and enjoying meals before and after driving.
Are you considering a brand-new truck or SUV that can handle road trips and off-road adventures? These beginner hiking tips are key to staying more active this year, especially as spring approaches.
Tell people where you’re going
A lot of places with hiking trails will have their trails rated by difficulty, such as beginner, intermediate, or expert. Pick one close to your comfort level. Keep in mind that even short trails can have a lot of uphill climbing or obstacles. Always remember to let someone know where you’re going for safety.
As a beginner hiker on beginner trails, you won’t need to bring along really heavy-duty equipment. However, a weatherproof backpack loaded with water and healthy snacks and a solid pair of shoes are necessary. Bring along both a map of the trails and an offline digital map.
Take your time
Plan out what time of day and year to go for when you want your experience. Warm, sunny days in the middle of the day are popular times if you want to be around people. Otherwise, try to shoot for a morning hike or schedule your trip for a chillier time of year.
Contact us here at Sour Lake Chevrolet if you need an outdoorsy vehicle to transport you to and from local hiking destinations. Or, if you need hiking spot recommendations in the Sour Lake area.
When traveling with a pet, especially during the winter months when road conditions are questionable, it is important to take extra precautions to ensure the protection of your pet during your travels. To help, we’ve compiled a list of the top three tips for traveling safely with your pet.
Use a pet carrier
According to PetMD.com, the best way to prevent accidental injuries is to stick your pets in a travel crate, no matter their size. One of the most common incidents for pet owners while traveling is an injury to their pet due to an automobile accident. Use an appropriately sized crate for your pet, and fasten the crate down with a seatbelt.
Keep your pets out of the front seat
Don’t keep your pet on your lap or in the passenger seat beside you. Airbags in cars are designed for adult humans, and the force of an airbag deploying is enough to seriously injure your pet. Your safest bet is to fasten them down in a crate in the back seat.
Pack sufficient food and water for the entire trip
Bring enough of both so that your pet will be sufficiently hydrated and fed the entire trip. That way, you can keep them comfortable even when rest stops are few and far between.
Stop by Sour Lake Chevrolet if you’re in need of a new vehicle to transport you and your furry friends. We’ll help match you with the right model for your pet-focused lifestyle.
